Why are E-Checks Important?

Vehicles are a major contributor to air pollution. Ohio is trying to do its part in reducing air pollution by requiring E-Checks. Ohio’s E-Check program is the most cost-effective way to reduce harmful organic compounds and maintain the required air quality. 

What is RapidScreen and How Does it Work?

In Northeast Ohio, there are RapidScreen vans that remotely scan vehicles as they drive by. Vehicles that have received two clean RapidScreen readings within a nine-month window in the year prior to its registration renewal will receive a notification in the mail and on the vehicle’three free e-checks

How Far in Advance Can I Have My Vehicle Tested?

You can have your vehicle tested up to one year in advance of your registration date since an E-Check compliance certificate is good for 365. It’s usually recommended that you have your vehicle tested early, especially if you will not be in Ohio when it’s time to renew.

Do I Need to Pay if My Vehicle Does Not Pass the Test?

No! You will not need to pay if your vehicle does not pass Ohio’s E-Check test. Drivers are allowed three free E-Checks. The fourth, and any E-Checks afterward, cost $18. Only one free passing test is permitted in a 365-day period.
