Brake fluid is “hygroscopic”, which means it both attracts and absorbs water and moisture. Even if you have a closed brake system, moisture can still get in there. When too much moisture gets into your brake fluid, you need to change your fluid. Typically this should occur about every three years or every 36,000 miles.
Many auto manufacturers claim they sell vehicles with transmission fluid that will last your entire lifetime, but usually you’ll start noticing transmission failure around 100,000 miles. We recommend you flush out your transmission fluid every 60,000 miles or so.
Your car’s air conditioner sucks in air from outside your car, and your cabin air filter filters out contaminants and pollutants from this air. Replacing your filter is usually inexpensive and should be an easy to perform task.
Most new cars use valve lifters that adjust automatically, but if you’re driving an older vehicle, you may have mechanical valve lifters. Occasionally, your lifts will need to be adjusted and checked, or else you could find yourself with a burned valve.
Similar to transmission fluid, auto manufacturers also claim that your engine’s coolant is a lifetime fluid. Over the years, we’ve found that most vehicles should have their coolant flushed and replaced every 40,000 to 60,000 miles.
